The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) today said it had sanctioned Rs. 111.24 crore as loan assistance to Karnataka for building up rural infrastructure in various districts.
The projects sanctioned cover rural roads, bridges and minor irrigation projects, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Karnataka Regional Office, Venkatesh Tagat said.
These projects have been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XVI) and the cumulative sanction to Karnataka during 2010-11 stands at Rs. 514.26 crore.
Implementation of 37 rural road projects with a total length of 119.85 kms and 13 rural bridge projects with a length of 269.10 metres is expected to benefit 16 districts connecting 220 villages with 76 marketing centres, besides generation of nonrecurring employment to the tune of 9.61 lakh mandays, he said in a statement.
Implementation of the 161 minor irrigation projects is expected to increase the irrigation potential in 16 districts to 9368.22 hectare, Mr. Tagat added.
