Niharika M. from Marimallappa’s PU College has secured the 45th rank in medical/ dental stream of the Common Entrance Test.

Mysuru students Niharika M. and Raveesh S.B., who have bagged 45th and 56th ranks in medical/ dental in the Common Entrance Test (CET) respectively, aspire to become cardiac surgeons.

Incidentally, the parents of both students are doctors.

Niharika, a student of Marimallappa’s PU College, is excited about her rank. “I was expecting a rank in top 50… I am very happy,” she told The Hindu.

Her father Manjunath is a surgeon at the Gundlupet General Hospital, while her mother Puttatayamma is a gynaecologist at the Nanjangud General Hospital. Niharika is their only child. A resident of Saraswathipuram, Niharika has for long nursed the dream of becoming a doctor.

Niharika thanked her parents and teachers for their constant support and said she hopes to specialise in cardiology and become a surgeon.

Asked about her preparations for CET, she said she went for coaching for both board examinations and CET. “I used to study for 10 to 12 hours every day when there were classes and longer if there were no classes,” she said and added that she liked to play volleyball.

The topper from the city, Raveesh S.B., a student of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, a residential school and college run by Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, who hails from Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district, thanked his college and lecturers for supporting him.

“The institution helps shape our future and provides more emphasis on it than just some rank. This helps us develop a strong personality with ethical values,” he told The Hindu over phone from Bengaluru.

Raveesh’s mother Nalina is a paediatrician, while his father B.P. Suresh is a veterinarian, who is presently the Joint Director at the Karnataka Milk Federation in Bengaluru. Raveesh, who has scored 56th rank in medical and 637th rank in engineering, said he will opt for medicine.

“I concentrated more on CET… if you get your concepts right, then scoring marks in second PU becomes easy. I was studying for nearly six hours every day. We had a disciplined schedule which helped me fare well,” he said.

Raveesh was expecting a rank in top 100 and successfully achieved it with a good score. He said he likes to listen to music and loves to play table tennis and football.
