Wipro chairman Azim Premji will receive the honouron Tuesday.

University of Mysore will confer honorary doctorate on Wipro chairman Azim Premji on March 22. The doctorate was announced during the university’s 95th annual convocation last year. However, Mr. Premji could not make it to receive the honour.

The former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, B.A. Khan, will confer the doctorate on Mr. Premji at Crawford Hall at 11 a.m.

Mr. Premji will deliver the centenary lecture-6 on ‘Improving school education in India’.

He will also release a special postal cover brought out in connection with the ongoing centenary celebrations of the varsity.

Besides Mr. Premji, the doctorate had been announced to Kannada novelist S.L. Bhyrappa and film personality Nagathihalli Chandrashekar last year. Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa said the centenary celebrations, which began in July last, will conclude this year, and vice-president Mohammad Hamid Ansari is expected to attend the valedictory ceremony, which will be held on July 27 or 30.

Mr. Rangappa said the university had requested the Centre to consider bringing out a postal stamp and a coin in commemoration of the centenary. A reply was awaited, he added.
