Mystery surrounds the death of a 15-year-old student of Class 10 of Phoenix Public School on the first day of the annual board examinations here on Thursday morning.

Manthan, son of Mahesh Bhadge, died on the spot after he fell from the terrace of a residential apartment in Jadhav Nagar under A.P.M.C. Police Station limits some time between 5.30 and 7 a.m.

Though his father registered a FIR with the police saying that his son committed suicide by jumping from the terrace, the possibility of Manthan falling accidentally has not being ruled out.

When contacted, school authorities said that Manthan was a meritorious student and had scored 90-plus marks in all the subjects in the preliminary examinations conducted by the school. He was supposed to appear for annual board examination for the first language paper. However, the police have registered a case and taken up investigation as the motive behind committing suicide is not known.
