A murder convict, who was on parole, was brutally hacked to death outside the railway station here during the early hours of Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Urkunda (47) and was a resident of Guru colony in the city.

Sources cited long standing enmity between Urkunda and Bandi Ramesh group as the main reason for the attack. Urkunda was convicted to life term in connection with the double murder in 2009 when Bandi Ramesh’s brother and nephew were brutally killed. A year later, Bandi Ramesh’s group retaliated by murdering Urkunda’s brother.

According to police, Urkunda, who was to board a train to Dharwad to attend a court, was attacked with long and machchu by a group of seven to eight persons, said to belong to Bandi Ramesh group, near the cycle stand at the railway station.

T.S. Murgannanavar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ballari (City) along with other senior officials visited the spot, said that based on a complaint by Ayyalappa, nephew of the deceased, a case has been registered against Bandi Ramesh and others.
