Members of various housing cooperative societies staged a demonstration outside the office of the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) here on Wednesday seeking its approval for them to form new residential layouts.

The action committee of the societies timed the protest on the day when the MUDA was distributing allotment letters to those who had been given sites at R.T. Nagar in Kergalli here. Minister in charge of Mysuru district, H.C. Mahadevappa, MUDA Chairman R. Dhruvakumar, and others were present.

The protesters said MUDA had kept its permission for developing layouts by housing societies on hold with a condition that the societies have to develop the layouts in the city limits in the ratio of 50:50, with MUDA. But the societies have opposed the proposal, delaying approvals to the layouts.

“When the land for creating layouts was bought from the money collected from the members, how is it possible to develop the layouts sharing 50% of sites to MUDA,” asked action committee convener D.T. Prakash in a statement.

The societies have resolved to protest the MUDA’s “unscientific stand” since its reported promise of looking into their concerns have remained unfulfilled even after many years. Despite three meetings in August this year, the MUDA did not take up the issue for discussion, causing disappointment to site aspirants, the statement said.

Committee members have warned of staging protests with site aspirants if the issue is kept unresolved.
