MP C.S. C.S. Puttaraju met Mandya Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti (MZRHS) president G. Made Gowda in Mandya on Sunday, before announcing his decision to 'withdraw' his resignation.

C.S. Puttaraju, MP, decided to withdraw his 'resignation' from the Deputy Commissioner, on Sunday.

Mr. Puttaraju, a Janata Dal (Secular) leader from Pandavapura, had submitted his resignation to Mandya Deputy Commissioner S. Ziyaullah recently as a mark of protest against the Supreme Court’s order to release 6,000 cusecs of water from state reservoirs to Tamil Nadu. According to sources at the Deputy Commissioner's office, Mr. Ziyaullah had not yet forwarded the resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

“I have decided to continue as MP after the state govenment passed the resolution to draw water only for drinking purposes,” Mr. Puttaraju said.

After meeting the Mandya Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti (MZRHS) president G. Made Gowda, who urged him to withdraw his resignation. he (Mr. Puttaraju) thanked the state government and chief minister Siddaramaiah for not releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for a while near Gandhi Bhavan after a JD(S) activist, identified as Nanjunda of H. Malligere Farm, threatened to set himself ablaze by pouring kerosene if Mr. Puttaraju didn’t withdraw his resignation. Before he could search for a matchbox, he was rescued.
