Organised as part of the ‘December to Remember’ tourism initiative of the Mysuru District administration, the Chamundi Hills step climbing competition held on Wednesday attracted a total of 315 participants.
The participants including school going children and senior citizens climbed the 1,008 steps leading to the summit of Chamundi Hills as part of the competition.
The participants were categorised into different batches of men and women belonging to various age groups - 8 years to 15 years, 16 years to 30 years, 31 years to 60 years and senior citizens batch comprising people aged 61 and above.
Though a majority of the participants completed the event by scaling all the 1,008 steps, quite a few descended after reaching Nandi statue situated at 650 steps.
Mysuru District Youth Co-ordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra, M.N. Nataraj, said the fastest timing recorded for completing the hill climb was 12 minutes 21 seconds by Chethan, who was in the 16 years to 30 years group. In the women’s category, it was Thippavva Sannakki, who reached the summit in 13 minutes and 10 seconds.
The oldest person, who participated in the event, was 75-year-old Swamy, a retired Assistant Engineer of PWD, who also managed to reach the summit.
