Minister inaugurates polio immunisation programme

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, said on Monday that it was essential to take steps to check the spread of a disease than taking treatment after it affected people.

He was speaking after inaugurating the pulse polio immunisation programme at the District Government Maternity and Children Hospital here.

Mr. Sorake said that though India was a polio-free country, there was possibility of the disease coming from other countries. Hence it was essential to take precautionary measures, he said.

Priyanka Mary Francis, Chief Executive Officer of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat; Mahendra, District Surgeon; M.G. Rama, District Reproductive and Children Health Officer; and Kishore, physician, were present.
