A day after announcing that the services of 11,000 pourakarmikas will be regularised, the State government is now planning to send 1,000 pourakarmikas on a study tour to Singapore.

Announcing this on Saturday, Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya said the civic workers will study the state of the art manhole cleaning system adopted in Singapore. "Although, our State has progressed ahead in terms of cleanliness, we need to further improve. Manhole cleaning still remains a challenge despite the use of machines. These workers will study the cleaning system adopted there," the minister said.

He said workers will be chosen from all districts and sent in batches for the tour.
