S.K. Modi, a mining baron and Managing Director of Ballari-based S.K. Modi Group of Companies, died at a private hospital in Bengaluru after a brief illness in the early hours of Tuesday. He was 66.

He is survived by his wife and daughter.

According to sources, the mortal remains would be brought to Ballari for public viewing. The body would be cremated on Tuesday evening.

Minister for Labour Santosh Lad, MLC K.C. Kondaiah, former minister M. Diwakar Babu, were among others to condole the death.
