Medico-legal issues mark memorial lecture

The fifth Dr. A Padma Rao Memorial Postgraduate Update and Oration’ was held at Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hall, Kasturba Medical College on July 24 and 25.

According to a press release issued here by Manipal University here on Wednesday, a conference was held on the opening day and the postgraduate residents presented research papers and posters. Priya Ballal and Kiran Acharya, professors at KMC, spoke on medico-legal issues.

The Dr. A Padma Rao Endowment Oration was delivered by Sareena Gilvaz, Professor from Thrissur, on the second day. She spoke on ‘Menopausal myths and realities’. Oration plaque and citation were awarded by H. Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University.

Dr. Bhat spoke on the importance of bringing down maternal and perinatal mortality and in that respect, recalled A. Padma Rao’s contribution. Muralidhar V. Pai, organising chairman and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, KMC, said that Padma Rao, faced with many challenges, established the Department in 1954 and headed it for 30 years. Pratap Kumar, professor, and Subhageeta, gynaecologist, were present.
