The police on Friday arrested five persons on charges of abducting a minor girl and marrying her off to a person in Kolhapur.
Bheemavva alias Laxmi Guddali (16), a student of government high school in Narendra village near here, was missing from June 18.
Missing
Following a report that the girl was absent from the school without intimation, the District Child Protection officer B. Usha lodged a complaint with the Dharwad Rural police.
By force
Investigation revealed that the girl’s mother and some others had taken her away forcibly and had got her married to a person from Kolhapur.
The police arrested Mahadevi Guddali, Bheemavva’s mother; Sachin Vasant Tagare of Abdulghat village in Shirol taluk of Kolhapur district, who had married Bheemavva; Gundappa Hulakund of Itagi in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district; Madiwalappa Aralimarad of Kulavalli village; and Kallavva Ishwarappa Kittur of Kelgeri in Dharwad. The police said that the accused were arrested in Belagavi.
They were produced in a court and have been remanded in judicial custody.
