A team from the City-based Canara Engineering College (CEC) have left here to take part in the the Bajaj SAE India Racing (car making) Competition 2015 to be held in Pitampur Madhya Pradesh from February 19 to 22.
Socity of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of India is organising this annual national-level engineering competition to make a single seat all terrain vehicle in accordance with the rules laid down. This is a two stage off road race competition and CEC students are participating for the second time in this event.
College Team ‘CEC Motor sports’ of 22 students led by Sudhesh Shetty, final year Mechanical Engineering student is expected to put up a good show in the final round, said college Principal Ganesh Bhat.
He said 'Astra' - the vehicle made by the team - resembled the Bajaj racing car design with 25 inch tyre for good pick up, 40 kg chassis, tig weld joints, 55 kmph, and weight 250 kg, five gears including reverse. It can negotiate any ups and downs even climb steps.
Recently Astra had a trial run on the CEC Campus and its impressive performance has boosted confidence of not only the Team but of the CECians, the principal added.
