Amidst commotion and unruly scenes, the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) budget for the year 2016-17 was presented and approved here on Wednesday.
The CMC meeting, which was mentioned as the ‘General Body Meeting’ in the agenda, got off to a stormy start soon after CMC president Hosahalli Boregowda announced that he is going to present the expected revenue and expenditure for the financial year 2016-17.
Former presidents B. Siddaraju and M.P. Arunkumar, both co-members of the Congress party, raised objections for not mentioning it as ‘Budget Meeting’ in the agenda and sought an explanation from Mr. Boregowda for presenting the budget in the ‘General Body Meeting’.
Within no time, noisy and unruly scenes erupted at the auditorium. Some members of the opposition Janata Dal (Secular) and some Independents attempted to storm the dais. They exchanged abusive and heated words.
Mr. Boregowda, three-time councillor, and others tried to mollify the councillors indulging in abusing each other.
Later, Mr. Boregowda presented the budget. It was passed in just a few minutes.
Vice-president Sujatha Mani, Commissioner T.N. Narasimha Murthy and others were present.
