A man was trampled to death by an elephant at Kamenahalli in Chikmagalur taluk on Sunday morning.

Forest officers gave his name as Hanumanthappa Bovi (35), an agricultural worker, of Kadur taluk. He encountered the elephant when he had gone to the forest to bring bamboo. Village residents found his body later in the day. Forest Department officers visited the spot and assured Hanumanthappa’s family of compensation from the government.
