Man loses leg, hand in accident

The incident occurred at Haveri Railway Station

A man lost his left leg and hand after they came under the wheels of a running train at Haveri Railway Station on Sunday. Worse, he had to wait for more than an hour to get help.

The incident happened when Vinayak Ramappa Mahendrakar tried to alight from the Mysore Dadar Express. He slipped and was caught under the wheels of the train. No one came to his help while he lied on the railway tracks bleeding profusely.

Help

Help came in the form of police inspector Pampapati, who took him to the district hospital. He was given first aid and rushed to KIMS Hospital in Haveri, where Mahendrakar underwent a surgery.

Doctors said he had suffered injuries on the head and neck and his condition was critical.

The police said Mahendrakar, a resident of Koragar Oni in Haveri, boarded the train to go to Yealavigi, near Haveri, and when he was told that the train would not stop there, he tried get down.
