A 50-year-old was trampled by a tusker, injuring him seriously, at Jolamaranahalli in Tumakuru district on Tuesday. He died on the way to the hospital.
Rangaswamaiah, who belongs to the same village, was going to his farm on Monday night when the elephant attacked him.
He was immediately rushed to Tumakuru district government hospital, where he was treated. As the injuries were serious, the doctors suggested shifting him to Victoria hospital in Bengaluru.
But he died on the way to the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.
Liver damaged
District Surgeon of Tumakuru district hospital Eshwaraiah told The Hindu that Rangaswamaiah had suffered severe injuries. All his internal organs, including the liver, were damaged and there were rib and bone fractures.
He added that the post mortem was conducted at the government hospital.
Deputy Conservator of Forests, N.V. Amaranath told The Hindu that compensation amounting to Rs. 5 lakh would be given to the victim’s wife, Gangamma.
A cheque of Rs. 2 lakh would be given to her on Tuesday itself, he added.
Influx
Three elephants had entered the district five days back from Adrangi forest in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru rural district.
Last night, they were in Mallasandra tank and on Tuesday they are in Adagur plantation in Gubbi taluk.
He said operations will be carried out to drive the elephants back to the forest.
