A man was killed in his sleep after his house collapsed in Sadaramangala early on Saturday as heavy rain lashed the area. The deceased has been identified as Raja, 36.

He worked as a labourer and lived in the three-decade-old house made of mud. The structure was weak and in dire need of repair. Early on Saturday, a portion of the wall and the asbestos roof collapsed over three people sleeping on the floor in the one-room house. Raja died on the spot, while two others, including his wife Chinnamma, suffered major injuries. They are undergoing treatment.

City Mayor R. Sampath Raj visited the spot and announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the family. He also directed the civic officials to conduct a survey of all dilapidated buildings in the city and evacuate the residents to safer places.
