Hassan police, on Monday, arrested a person on charge of raping a minor girl. The arrested person has been identified as Rangaraju (37), father of two children. He allegedly raped a minor girl, native of a village in Hassan taluk, on December 18.
Deputy Commissioner K.P. Mohan Raj and Superintendent of Police Amit Singh visited the Goruru police station where the case was registered on Sunday evening and spoke to the victim and her parents.
Later, Mr. Mohan Raj told presspersons that the accused had taken the minor on his two-wheeler on the pretence of dropping her to school on December 18 evening before committing the crime. The girl had gone to the school in the evening as she was to join her classmates on a study tour. “The accused had threatened the minor not to tell anyone about the incident. However, the news of the incident spread in the village as a few residents had noticed his suspicious conduct with the girl that night”, he said.
The girl shared the information about the incident with her mother after returning from her study tour. Subsequently the village panchayat held meetings during which the accused denied of having committed the crime. “The family members of the victim and the public have delayed informing the police about the incident. If such incidents come to their notice, I appeal to the public to inform about it to the police immediately,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
Superintendent of Police Amit Singh said that the police would ensure that the guilty is brought to book. Goruru police have registered the case against the accused under 376 of IPC (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012. The minor has been subjected to medical examination.
