Man dies after earthmover falls on car

A person was killed when a lorry carrying an earthmoving vehicle fell on a car at Tenka Yermal village in Padubidri police station limits on Monday.

The police said the lorry carrying the earthmover was going from Udupi to Mangaluru, while the car carrying two passengers, was moving from Padubidri to Udupi, when the driver of the lorry lost control over the vehicle on National Highway 66.

Both the lorry and earthmover fell on the car and driver Vittal Naik (62), a resident of Shantinagar, Udupi, was severely injured.

The police had to struggle to remove him from the car. He was taken to the hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead.

Two persons sitting on the back seat of the car escaped with minor injuries.

The lorry driver fled from the scene after the accident. Rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver is said to be the cause of the accident.

A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.

Man dies in accident

A person, who was thrown out in a collision between two motorcycles was run over by a truck and died on the spot at Yadady-Matyady village in Kota police station limits in Udupi district on Monday.

The police said Narasimha Kulal (65) was driving his motorcycle from Gudeangady to Shiriyar, when another motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction collided with his vehicle.

As a result of the collision, Kulal got thrown to the West side of the road.

At the same time, a lorry, which was moving from Shiriyar to Gudeangady ran over him, killing him on the spot.

A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
