Mahaveer Jayanti was celebrated across the district on Thursday. A colourful procession was taken out in the morning. Assistant Commissioner Kavita Yogappanavar inaugurated the celebrations.
Young boys dressed up as Jain monks sat in meditation as several folk artistes performed along the procession. The procession began in the old city and went around the main streets of the city.
The book ‘Summit of Peace’ brought out by The Hindu was released on the occasion.
Community leaders including MLA Sanjay Patil, Vinod Doddannanavar, and Kuntinath Kalimani were present.
