Maharashtra to release water again on April 18

Maharashtra’s Water Resources Department has promised to release water at the rate of 400 cusecs through the Vedganga into the Krishna on April 18.

The Krishna flows through parts of Belagavi district downwards into Karnataka before entering the undivided Andhra Pradesh.

This was informed by an official of the Irrigation Department during the tri-monthly Karnataka Development Programme meeting chaired by Minister for Small Scale Industries and district in-charge Satish L. Jarkiholi here on Saturday.

Maharashra has already released water at the rate of 500 cusecs from the Kalammawadi dam through the Dudhganga, which converges with the Krishna near Yadur of Chikkodi taluk of Belagavi ditrict.

Mr. Jarkiholi said that the Maharashtra government would be requested to release water at the rate of 500 cusecs from its reservoirs to meet the drinking water needs of villages of Chikkodi, Raibag and Athani taluks.
