In a rare gesture, the Government of Maharashtra has gifted Rs. 10 lakh to the Belagavi branch of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad to support theatre movement in the city.

Disclosing this here on Thursday, Parishad’s Belagavi president Veena Lokur said the amount has already been received by the Parishad and thanked the Maharashtra government for the largesse.

She said that the funds were kept aside for building drama sets and purchasing equipments for theatre production such as lights, microphones and audio system equipments. By this expenses on stage shows production would come down considerably.

Ms. Lokur remarked that the development of the Parishad would soon prove to be an important stepping stone for the theatre goers of the city. The Parishad would expeditiously build the sets, she added.
