Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised to release 4 tmc ft. of water for the drinking water needs of drought affected areas of North Karnataka.

The assurance was given to a delegation led by Karnataka BJP president Pralhad Joshi, MP, who explained the plight of the people in Belagavi, Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts and submitted a request-letter to Mr. Fadnavis at his office in Mumbai on Monday, according to a press release by S. Prakash, Convener, Media Centre, Karnataka BJP.

Mr.Joshi thanked the Maharashtra government and said the gesture would strengthen ties between the two neighbouring States. Members of the delegation included former Minister Laxman Savadi, MLA; Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore; Bagalkot MP P.C. Gaddigoudar; Mahantesh M. Kavatagimath, MLC; former MLA Siddu Savadi; and Belagavi district BJP president Annasaheb Jolle.

Mr.Joshisaid a large population was reeling under severe drought conditions due to poor rainfall during the last two monsoon seasons. Several villages along Krishna river in the three districts were facing acute drinking water shortage.

He said the plight of both farmers and cattle was miserable and they were undergoing forced migration, leaving the aged and physically disabled to survive on their own.
