The police wing of the Lokayukta conducted simultaneous raids on six properties belonging to four government officials on Saturday and came across properties disproportionate to their known sources of income.
During the raid conducted in Bagalkot, Lokayukta officials found that Shivappa Mallappa Alakawadi, a police constable attached to the District Armed Reserve police, owns vast tracts of agricultural land, five residential plots and one house.
Although the government valuation of these properties has been fixed at Rs. 49 lakh, their actual worth is estimated to be several times more.
Mr. Alakawadi was also found to be in possession of nearly Rs. 4 lakh in cash, as well as 300 grams of gold, nearly half a kilo of silver and 10 vehicles, including five four-wheelers.
M. Chandrashekaraiah, a junior engineer with the Panchayat Raj Department at Kanakapura, was found to be in possession of a three-storeyed residential house and a plot in Bangalore and two agricultural plots measuring over seven acres.
He was also found to own nearly a kilo of gold, seven kilos of silver, a car and two motorcycles.
Basaiah Ningaiah Itagimata, a gram panchayat employee in Gadag, was found to be in possession of vast tracts of agricultural land and two motorcycles.
The Lokayukta police found that Shivalinga Kondagoli, a senior sanitary inspector, owned three residential plots, three houses, nearly a kg of gold, 20 kg of silver, bank accounts with over Rs. 49 lakh, one car and one motorcycle.
