A three-year-old leopard was caught on the Mandya National Paper Mills premises at Belagola near Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir on Sunday night, three days after the capture of a leopardess at Kenchanahalli in Pandavapura.
The leopard, which was said to have killed several sheep and dogs in the vicinity of Belagola since past a few weeks, had strayed into the abandoned paper mills on Sunday morning where it was trapped around 9 p.m.
Like the leopardess trapped at Kenchanahalli on Friday, this one will be transported to the forests at Hanur, in Chamarajanagar, and released there, according to Mohammed Jaffer, the Range Forest Officer (Mandya).
A farmer, who was grazing sheep, noticed the leopard and alerted the local people. The leopard was hiding in a culvert when Forest Department officials reached the spot with a cage to trap it. Forest officials sealed one end of the culvert and placed the cage at the other end. They burst crackers to scare the leopard into coming out.
