Last date for submitting applications under RTE extended till February 21

February 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Mysuru:

The last date for submitting applications for admissions to private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been extended till February 21.

Though February 19 had originally been fixed as the last date for accepting applications under RTE quota, Block Education Officer (BEO), Mysuru South, B.N. Shivaramegowda told The Hindu that the government had decided to extend the deadline by two more days.

Though several organisations and individuals had urged the government to extend the deadline in view of the delay many parents were facing in procuring income and caste certificates, the officials of the Department of Public Instruction in Bengaluru had refused to yield to the demand as such a move would affect the admission cycle of general category students, which begins soon after the 25 per cent of seats earmarked for economically and socially backward students in private schools are filled.

“But, in view of the problems the server had been facing for receiving applications online over the last two days, the government had permitted the authorities concerned to accept applications for two more days. The applications will be accepted till February 21 or till they are accepted online. Even the hard copies of the applications that are received by the authorities need to be uploaded online,” an Education Department official said.

It may be mentioned here that as many as 4,141 seats are available under RTE in 428 private aided and unaided schools in Mysuru district this year. While 2,590 seats are available for lower kindergarten, 1,551 seats are available for Class 1.
