Kumaraswamy rules out hung Assembly

Questioning poll surveys that predicted hung Assembly in the State and fewer seats for his party, Janata Dal (Secular) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy said the surveys will be proved wrong as he was confident of getting 113 seats.

Participating in a meet-the-press organised by Mysuru District Journalists’ Association here, he said the political scenario in 2008 and 2013 was different from 2018, which he claimed was favourable to the JD(S) with people fed up of the “bad governance” of the BJP and the Congress in the last one decade. He claimed the party’s overall vote share is set to improve by at least 10% this election. “With BSP supporting the party, the situation looks positive.”

Mr. Kumaraswamy said a Dalit and a Muslim will be made Deputy Chief Ministers if the party comes to power on its own. Asked about the possibility of an alliance with the Congress in case of hung Assembly, the former Chief Minister said: “We don’t need anybody’s support as we will be forming the government on our own.”

Mr. Kumaraswamy said he was contesting from Channapatna and Ramanagaram as a decision was taken that only two from our family will contest the elections. “We had stuck to this decision and instead of my wife, I had to contest in Channapatna,” he said.
