Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa has said that the varsity is ready to increase the intake for B.Ed. programme from the current 500 to 2,000 to cater to the growing demand if the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) gave its approval.
Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Prof. Rangappa said the university had requested the council to enhance the intake to the B.Ed. course, but the request had not been considered. “We are ready to increase the intake to about 2,000 seats,” he said.
The two-year course is being run under the distance mode. The KSOU Vice-Chancellor said postgraduate courses in chemistry, physics and biotechnology would be launched during 2012-13.
A diploma course in general biology would also be launched from this academic year, he said, adding that the university was running over 300 courses.
Boost
The courses in science would get boost when the proposed Science Bhavan was completed, he said.
He said the university was running PG courses in mathematics, psychology, food and nutrition, geography and computer science.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university's enrolment had crossed three lakh.
