The Karnataka State Government Employees Association may resort to a strike if the government does not heed to its demand of pay parity with Central government employees, Association president B.P. Manje Gowda has said.

He told presspersons on the sidelines of the Association’s State Committee meeting here on Tuesday that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah disappointed the employees in the budget by not making the announcement with regard to pay revision.

While the Central government employees have got the benefit of the 7th Pay Commission, the State government employees are still under the 6th Pay Commission. Reports of both the commissions are “swarming with defects” and the employees are agitating against it, he said.

During his recent meeting, the Chief Minister promised the Association that its demands would be met in 2017, Mr. Gowda said. However, office-bearers of the Association had their reservations about the assurance.

A final decision on going for a strike would be taken at the State Committee meeting either by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, he added.
