Congress workers felicitated Eshwar Khandre, Bhalki MLA, who recently took charge as Municipal Administration minister, in Bidar on Thursday.

The whole city was decked up to celebrate a leader form the district joining the State Cabinet after eight years. Congress workers and Mr. Khandre’s supporters organised a bike rally in the city. They received him at the Telangana-Karnataka border in the morning. Mr Khandre was brought in a colourful procession to a massive rally in Ganesh Maidan in the centre of the city.

Vijay Singh, MLC, and Rahim Khan, MLA, rode with him in a jeep that was decorated as a Vijay Rath. Khaji Arshed Ali, district Congress committee president, Rajshekar Patil, Aravind Arali and other leaders were present.

Followers stopped Mr. Khandre’s vehicle in a few places in the old city and garlanded him. He told his supporters that he would work for the overall development of the district. He would also focus on improving the condition of urban local bodies in towns and cities around the State.

Earlier, he visited temples in Jhira Sangam and Zaheerabad in Telangana. Veerashaiva Mahasabha organised a felicitation for him in Zaheerabad.

Background

Mr. Khandre’s father, Bheemanna Khandre, had served as a Minister in the Veerappa Moily Cabinet 25 years ago. The first leader from Bhalki to enter the Cabinet was Subhash Ashture in 1974. Mirajuddin Patel, former MLA from Humnabad, had served as the Municipal Administration ministers in the past.
