Six-year-old Kaveri, who died after falling into a borewell in Jhanjarwad village of Belagavi district, was buried on Tuesday in the same farm where she met her tragic end.

District in-charge Minister M.B. Patil has instructed Deputy Commissioner K.B. Shivakumar to issue directions to all farmers not to take out the casing from non-yielding borewells in the district.

Chairing a public grievance meeting here on Tuesday, he said in a majority of the cases, the children fall into open borewells, which become death traps when farmers remove their casing. He said casing prevents the side walls of the borewells from eroding and thus widening the opening.
