The 2016 book awards of Karnataka Sangha, Shivamogga, were presented here on Saturday evening.

The following fall in the list of the books awarded: Kuvempu Award for novel Vaivasvata to Rekha Kakhandaki; S.V. Parameshwara Bhat Award for the translation of Assame kathegarthiyara kathegalu to D.N. Srinath; M.K. Indira Award for woman writing for Aalada neralu to Madhura Karnam; P. Lankesh Award for Jinni to Mirza Basheer; G.S. Shivarudrappa Award for poetry collection for Ale takidare dada to Vasudeva Nadig; Ha.Ma. Nayak Award for Maleya maatu to G.S. Bhat; Dr. U.R. Ananthamurthy Award for Kaanada kadalu to Indrakumar H.B.; K.V. Subbanna Award for Okuli haagu itara naatakagalu to Subrava Kulkarni; Kukke Subrahmanya Shastry Award for Nile nadiya naadinalli to M. Janaki Brahmavara; Hasudi Venkata Shastry Award for Antarjala balake to A.S. Kumaraswamy; Na. D’Souza award for Makkala kathaloka to Mattur Subbanna; and H.D. Chandrappa Gowda Award for Vaidya vinuthana to H.S. Mohan.

Film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, who presented the awards, said that the reading habits of youngsters today are poor owing to their pre-occupation with the Internet and television. He added that the translation of literary works in other languages other than Kannada should be promoted.
