The Congress has convened a meeting of its office-bearers and district Congress presidents on May 28 in Bangalore to discuss the debacle of the recent Lok Sabha polls.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had received complaints that some party workers in most Lok Sabha constituencies worked against the party’s official candidates. Supporters of defeated Congress candidates have been staging protests in front of the KPCC office.
Following this, KPCC president G. Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had sought a report from district units on anti-party activities.
At the May 28th meeting, the two leaders will discuss the reports and review the performance of all the Ministers and legislators in the elections.
Anyone found to have indulged in anti-party activities will face disciplinary action. The review report will be placed before the KPCC executive committee meeting slated to be held on June 14. AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh is likely to attend this meeting, a party source said.
Although the party holds sway in several Assembly constituencies, it could win only nine Lok Sabha seats. “The party is determined to find out the reasons for the poor performance,” the source said.
