Karnataka Lokayukta concerned over crimes against women

Karnataka Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao has expressed concern over the increasing cases of crimes against women and called upon women’s rights groups to increase awareness on laws to ensure gender justice.

Speaking at a function here to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday, he said crimes against women stood at 2.13 lakh in 2010 and rose to 2.28 lakh in 2011. Cases of sexual harassment against women stood at 20,172 in 2010, it rose to 24,206 in 2011, he added, citing statistics from the Crime Records Bureau.
