Siddaramaiah to visit flood-hit areas in Bidar and Kalaburagi

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will visit, along with senior officials and ministerial colleagues,the flood-hit areas of Bidar and Kalaburagi districts on Tuesday to take stock of the ravage caused by heavy rains.

Official sources said in Kalaburagi city on Monday that Mr. Siddaramaiah would land at the Bidar Airport of the Indian Air Force on Tuesday. The Chief Minister, along with Municipal Administration Minister Eshwar Khandre and other senior officials, would undertake an aerial survey of the affected areas and also visit one village in Bidar district before heading to the temporary helipad at Navodaya School at Korwar in Chitapur taluk to visit the flood hit areas in Sedam and Chitapur taluk in the district.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, accompanied by Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil and Minister for Tourism and IT and BT Prayank Kharge, would undertake a tour of the flood-hit Tengali village on the banks of the Bennethora river in Sedam taluk and later visit the affected areas in Kansur village in Chitapur taluk. He will also inspect the damage caused to the standing crops and public properties. Before leaving to Bengaluru, the Chief Minister would hold a review meeting of the relief measures taken up so far with the senior officials in the Navodaya School complex.

Meanwhile, Gangaram Baderia, Secretary of the Karnataka Disaster Management Authority in the Revenue Department, said the State government had decided to submit a detailed memorandum to the Union government seeking adequate funds to take up the relief works and pay compensation to the affected.

Mr. Baderia, who visited Tengli and Kansur village and the Bennethora dam at Harsur, said the Bidar and Kalaburagi district administrations have been asked to submit a detailed estimate of the loss to the agriculture crops, private and public properties to prepare the comprehensive memorandum to be submitted to the Centre.

He said the State government, without waiting for the Central relief, would take up relief works and pay compensation amount on emergency basis in the affected areas. The State had a sum of Rs. 270 crore in the State Disaster Response Fund and this amount would be used to provide immediate relief to the affected people and later a reimbursement would be sought from the Centre.
