Scotching rumours of early elections in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday categorically told the Congress legislators that elections to the State Legislative Assembly would be only in April 2018 and asked them to begin preparations in their constituencies after the monsoon session of the legislature.

The ongoing State legislature session concludes on June 15.

With BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa touring districts across the State, Mr. Siddaramaiah instructed his party legislators to visit their respective constituencies after the legislature session and listen to grievances of the public.

At the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting which he chaired, the Chief Minister told the legislators that there was “a pro-Congress wave” in the State and that legislators’ presence in their constituencies would further help consolidate the party’s strength during the next year’s elections, sources in the party said.

Taking note of minor differences among leaders in districts, he told MLAs to sort out differences with district in-charge Ministers and local leaders, and get the public works done.

Mr. Siddaramaiah congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and instructed party legislators to attend the ongoing legislature session without failure. He was reportedly unhappy about the poor attendance of legislators at both the CLP meeting and in the legislature.
