The State Cabinet, which had a marathon sitting for several hours on Thursday, is believed to have discussed the present political situation, particularly on the pros and cons of dissolving the Legislative Assembly given the threat of resignation by some more legislators seeking to join the Karnataka Janata Paksha of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
Informed sources told The Hindu that consultations were on with the BJP high command on the ways and means of handling the situation given the fact that the ruling party presently enjoys only a wafer thin majority (106 ) in the Assembly, which presently has a strength of 211 members. The resignation of one member is on hold with Speaker K.G. Bopaiah.
The Cabinet approved the address by Governor H.R. Bhardwaj to a joint session of the legislature scheduled for February 4.
