The 67th inter-collegiate athletics meet of Karnatak University, Dharwad, will held at the R.N. Shetty District Stadium here from October 12 to 14.

A release by K.G.Nadagir Physical Education College principal M.G. Timmapur stated that the three-day event will be held in association with their college.

A total of 566 male athletes and 233 women athletes will take part in 23 events.

The participants will be from Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, and Dharwad districts falling under the jurisdiction of the Karnatak University, he said.

Arrangements are underway for smooth conduct of the event. A total of 60 sports officials, referees, and 50 volunteers will be appointed.

Athletes who win here will get a chance to represent Karnatak University at the all-India inter-collegiate athletic meet to be held at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur in December. This is for the first time that an athletic meet is being played on synthetic track here and hence, more new records are likely to be created.

A special cash prize of ₹2,000 will be given to those creating new records, he added. This apart, first three winners will be getting medals and certificates, he added.

The meet will begin at 6.30 a.m. on October 12 and will be officially inaugurated by university Registrar (Evaluation) Nijalingappa Mattihal at 9:30 a.m.

BJP leader Shivu Hiremath, B.M. Patil, and others will be present. The prize distribution ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on October 14.

S.V. Sankanoor, MLC, will be the chief guest, the release added.
