Jamboti, the native village of Kargil war hero Shahid Dhondiba N. Desai, is facing drinking water shortage. Residents of Vadgaon locality in the village staged a demonstration with empty pots in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday.

The villagers said water supply to their locality had been affected due to damages in the connecting pipeline. Due to leakage, the water flowing through the pipeline was contaminated and unfit for consumption. The villagers were risking health disorders.

The villagers claimed that their requests to the Jamboti Gram Panchayat to repair the pipeline had gone in vain. They urged the Deputy Commissioner to direct the authorities concerned to take up immediate repairs and supply clean drinking water by tankers till the onset of monsoon and the existing borewells were recharged.

The villagers also urged the Deputy Commissioner to direct officials concerned to repair the approach road to the village from the Belagavi-Goa inter-state highway, as it was in a poor condition.
