Kannada Sahitya Parishat is facing shortage of funds for the 81st Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held at Shravanabelagola in Channarayapatna taluk, after the State Government Employees’ Association refused to contribute one day’s salary for the event. The parishat is facing a shortage of over Rs. 1.68 crore.
Meeting held
H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Public Works and in-charge of Hassan district, held a meeting regarding preparations of the event at Shravanabelagola on Sunday. In the meeting, parishat office-bearers said that the parishat was assured of getting Rs. 2.61 crore. This includes Rs. 2 crore from the State government, Rs. 28 lakh from local bodies of Hassan district, Rs. 24 lakh in the form of a delegation fee and Rs. 9 lakh from booksellers taking part in the book exhibition. “The parishat has decided to submit a proposal seeking additional funds from the State government,” said H.L. Janardana, president of Hassan district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
Appeal to association
The meeting resolved to appeal to the State Government Employees’ Association to provide a day’s salary to the event without cuts. The association has agreed to provide only half day’s salary of employees in the district for the event. Mr. Mahadevappa inspected the preparations made for the c
onduct of the sammelan. Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pundalika Halambi, former president Nallur Prasad; and C.N. Balakrishna, Shravanabelagola MLA, were present.
