Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) has promised to display signboards inside and on the airport premises in Kannada and is expected to make flight announcement in the State’s official language, in addition to English, by December-end.
Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru told presspersons in Bangalore on Friday that he visited the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) and urged its management to display signboards in Kannada within three months.
The airport authorities have been asked to make flight information announcements, including departure and arrival, in Kannada. The authorities have agreed to make Kannada newspapers available at the airport, he said.
The KDA has taken steps for effective implementation of projects and programmes relating to development of Kannada. Review meetings would be held in each district to monitor and evaluate the implementation of Kannada in the administration, Mr. Chandru said.
The KDA chief said he visited the Toyota Kirloskar Motor plant at Bidadi,on the outskirts of Bangalore, where the management agreed to install boards in Kannada in the next three months. The management of the company had been told to employ Kannadigas in the various categories of jobs. Nearly 90 per cent of the employees in the Group C and D category are Kannadigas, he said. Mr. Chandru urged the managements of the airport and plant to celebrate Karnataka Rajyostava Day on November 1 in a grand manner.
