The farmers’ agitation over the sharing of the Mahadayi water, which was losing steam in the recent days, has once again gained momentum following Union Minister Uma Bharti’s letter on the Centre’s unwillingness to intervene in the matter.

The indefinite dharna at Kittur Chennamma Circle has seen the number of participants in the agitation gradually increasing.

On Thursday, Reverend Jacob, former MLA, from Kalaghatagi accompanied by several farmers of the taluk took part in the agitation.

Addressing the protestors, Reverend Jacob (commonly known as Father Jacob) said that the farmers of Kalaghatagi too had decided to join the agitation.

He said that the agitation in Naragund had already crossed 200 days and still there was no sign of solution.

It was regrettable that the farmers were forced to intensify the agitation for getting water, he said. Farmers leaders from Kalaghatagi K.B. Gudihal, B.V. Patil, Soumya Naik, Madivalappa Lakkammanavar and others took part in the agitation.
