The general body meeting of the Kalaburagi City Corporation held here on Friday witnessed noisy scenes, after councillors representing different political parties voiced their demands.

The meeting was delayed by one-and-half hours as people from different wards under the banner of Gandagi Mukt Andolan gheraoed Corporation Commissioner Shrikant Kattimani outside the meeting hall at Indira Smarak Bhavan, accusing him of failing to take action against the pig menace in the city.

Both the ruling Congress and the Opposition party councillors, supporting the protest, trooped into the well during the meeting and urged the corporation to put an end to pig menace in the city.

The BJP councillors accused Mayor Aliya Shereen and Mr. Kattimani for not including their demands in the agenda.

The councillors alleged that the city corporation had failed to provide basic amenities to citizens.

Councilor Sheikh Ajmal Gola, irked by the recent demolition drive by the city corporation near the city bus stand in Kalaburagi, said, “The demolition of shops belonging to street vendors has severely affected the poor families.”

A few councillors also demanded that the meeting be postponed.

The Mayor adjourned the meeting twice and walked out of the council hall for some time. The councillors followed the Mayor to her office room and asked for the council to be reconvened. Meanwhile some opposition and ruling councilors were engaged in a heated exchange of words in the council hall.Later, a few subjects of the agenda were passed in no time and Mayor declared the meeting over as all the councilors left the meeting hall.
