Iravathi, a female Asiatic elephant at Mysuru zoo, has given birth to a female calf recently. “The mother and the elephant calf are in good health,” said the zoo authorities.

The elephant calf was born on July 21. The calf’s father Abhi was born at the zoo over a decade ago

A hippopotamus calf was born to Sooraj and Soundarya, the hippopotamus pair at the zoo, on June 22.

“The mothers are nursing their young ones very well. The zoo veterinarians are taking all precautions to ensure the well being of both the mothers and the calves,” C. Ravishankar, Zoo Executive Director, said.
