The Janata Dal (Secular) has demanded the government extend the ongoing winter session of the legislature for four or five days and utilise the additional days to focus on issues of north Karnataka region.
JD(S) district president Ashok Pujari said here on Saturday that the 10-day session, which commenced here on Tuesday, had wasted time on issues that were “political in nature”.
The proceedings of the first four days of the session clearly indicated that neither the Congress government nor the principal Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party were serious about issues concerning the development and progress of the region, in spite of the fact that the decision to hold winter session at Belagavi was to discuss region-specific issues and bridge gaps in regional imbalances.
Mr. Pujari said the government should earmark Rs. 30,000 crore towards the comprehensive development of Mumbai-Karnataka region over the period of five years. The government should shift some of the departments to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha at Belagavi so that the Rs. 400 crore-structure was put to use regularly, he said.
