JD(S) question land allotment to Congress at throwaway price

April 27, 2015 01:35 pm | Updated 01:35 pm IST - BELAGAVI

The District General Secretary of Janata Dal (S), Yusuf A. Athani questioned the decision of the Belagavi City Corporation to allot 10 guntas of land near the RTO circle to Congress for construction of party office for a value much less than book value and too less than the market value.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said the BCC allotted the land to Congress for Rs.500/- per sq.ft., while the official price of the land near RTO Circle was Rs.2,100/- per sq.ft. The market value of the land was much higher.

Opposition member in the BCC, Council Deepak Jamkhandi (BJP) had also raised strong objection on BCC’s decision to allot land to the Congress party for such a throwaway price resulting in a loss of nearly Rs. six to Rs. seven crores to BCC.

He demanded an explanation on the matter from the BCC Commissioner M.R. Ravi Kumar and the State government at the earliest.
