The Returning Officer (RO) of Bagepalli Assembly constituency in Chickballapur district stopped the convention of Janata Dal (Secular) on Sunday and registered a case on charges of violating model code.

Returning Officer Nagaraja Shetty raided the venue of the convention when the party State president and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy began his speech. The officer objected to holding the meeting saying that the permission was not taken for the same. When the organisers argued that permission was taken, the officer asked them to produce the permission letter. Though the organisers presented a letter of the concerned local body, the officer refused to honour it and insisted that the permission from concerned election officer was required.

Mr. Kumaraswamy finished his speech in a huff and the convention was dispersed hurriedly.
