JD(S) criticises salary hike for legislators, Ministers

The government’s decision to increase the salary and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, and legislators has drawn flak from the Janata Dal (Secular) here. District Janata Dal (S) general secretary Yusuf A. Athani said on Tuesday that such a hike which would put an additional burden of Rs. 44 crore on the exchequer every year.

While the government justified the hike saying there was considerable increase in the cost of living, it has not apparently shown a similar “concern” towards the common man. Dr. Athani said this money could have been used to create drinking water sources in drought-prone areas and housing for the shelterless.
